“The Age of Rembrandt” is an exhibition currently on view at the Metropolitan Museum of Art through January 6, 2008. The landmark exhibition, which opened in September 2007, showcases the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s entire Dutch paintings collection, including 20 by Rembrandt van Rijn, 11 by Frans Hals, and five of the 36 known paintings by Johannes Vermeer. The exhibition takes place in 12 of the museum’s galleries and presents all 228 paintings in the approximate order of acquisition.

Walter Liedtke is curator of European paintings at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and is the museum’s specialist for Dutch and Flemish paintings. He has curated or co-curated several of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s blockbuster exhibitions including “Rembrandt/Not Rembrandt” (1995); “Vermeer and the School of Delft” (2001); and the museum’s current exhibition, “The Age of Rembrandt.” Liedtke received his bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University, his master’s degree from Brown University, and his doctorate from the Courtauld Institute, University of London. Liedtke was designated Knight in the Order of Leopold by King Albert II of Belgium in 1993; he was named an Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau by Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands in September 2007.
