Professor Don Ariev
Dear Colleagues,
It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of Professor Don Ariev, who died on July 4th, 2007.
Don was a stalwart member of the Pratt community for four decades and among his multifarious contributions, served as Academic Senate President between 2001 and 2004.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in memory of Professor Ariev, details of which were published in the New York Times (pasted below).

The Pratt Institute community notes with sorrow the death of Graduate Communications and Packaging Design chairperson Donald Ariev, who made immeasurable contributions to design education during his 40-year tenure as a professor and administrator at Pratt. An award-winning designer, Don served as a model of excellence for generations of students.
A memorial at Pratt is planned for fall 2007. Donations in memory of Professor Ariev can be sent to Pratt Institute, Division of Development, 200 Willoughby Avenue, 219 North Hall, Brooklyn, NY 11205.
